This week DoFuss is off to TGS, expect plenty of articles, previews and interviews dotted around the internet. To add to this we will also be having another podcast this week from the show. Although the next podcast will lack the usual polish as we’ll be ‘in the field’, this show has the usual line-up of news, music, games, banter and of course, Frakesy for your auditory pleasure. Hope you enjoy! Continue reading The DoFuss Show – TGS Hype Machine
I make no secret of the fact I no longer consider myself a hardcore gamer. I play to experience the worlds games have to offer. Developer Tale of Tales manage to cater to my touristic sensibilities. They design interactive experiences that provide portals to exploration and narrative rather than game play. I understand that this isn’t something that is to everyone’s tastes, unguided experiences that offer little in the way of action, but to me they prove a beautiful escape. Tale of Tales most notable title to date is The Path, and while it would be misleading to call it … Continue reading Tale of Tales
Dark Presence and its sequel Conquering Light are two upcoming titles from developer Galloping Ghost. Both are classic one on one 2D fighters being developed specifically for arcades, but perhaps more notable is the fact that they use digitized characters. At first glance this call up memories of jerky low res games of old such as Pit Fighter and Mortal Kombat, but closer inspection shows that while it may owe a lot to its pixilated grandparents, this is a far more evolved title. Promising to offer over 150,000 frames of animation and full HD graphics, the stills currently available look … Continue reading Interview with Dark Presence creator Doc Mack
I just had an article go up on Playdevil. There are a few lines that looking back I would edit (the one about Japan being a gaming Mecca is a little ham-fisted in retrospect) but I can’t get at it to make any changes, which in a way is quite liberating! Here is a short excerpt… “In the shrinking world of the Internet we now feel that if we have an interest in another countries culture we understand their habits, predilections and biases. We’ll I am here to tell you that perhaps your preconceptions about Japan and its gaming culture … Continue reading Gaming in Japan
Okay, I have finally taken over the reigns of editing, which is why the latest podcast is a tad late. Think I have it all down though, so here’s hoping you won’t notice much of a difference. During the course of this show we manage to talk about institutionalization… and drugs… and sandwiches, all without diverging from the usual format of news and features. Frakesy, Darren’s old games and the song challenge are back as always and are joined this week by discussion of game prices. A few extra notes. Every time I say Acclaim I mean Activision. It is … Continue reading The DoFuss Show – I Want a Sandwich.
It seems that governments and parents regularly become fixated on the content of games. They talk about gaming as though it is the corrupter of youth, the new source of society`s ills. Television and cinema are probably laughing themselves to sleep after being the target of similar complaints for the last thirty years because the news media has finally found a new target. It is an easy way to score points for politicians: target the gaming industry as it is starting to establish itself and blame it for a social problem to distract the voting populous from real issues. It … Continue reading Children and Violent Games
As games become more mainstream and various media audiences intertwine it comes as no surprise that both the game and movie industries are trying to cash in on the other. Since the early days games have drawn on other pop cultural licenses to bolster sales, but only in the last ten years has the technology existed to make these titles able to expand a franchise beyond the ubiquitous side scrolling action games of old. Now a video game can be used to make stories that tie into the movie’s own mythos, either as a compliment or even as a true … Continue reading Destroying My Memories.
