The news of the DSi was no surprise, but its timing was.

On the hardware side this update replaces the GBA-slot with a new slimmer design, bigger screens, internal memory, a flashcard slot and two cameras (one .3 mega pixel one on the case and a VGA camera inside). The internal memory allows for a built in browser and opens the system for downloadable content.

It’s out here in Japan early November, spring in Europe and N.America has to wait until late 2009. Rather than being a holiday release this is probably more an attempt to stop the momentum the PSP is building in Japan. It will be interesting to see if this announcement will slow Christmas sales in the West as people wait for this in other territories rather than buying the ‘lite’.

Oh, and rumor suggests it will be region locked so put your import orders on hold.
