Gaming in Japan
I just had an article go up on Playdevil. There are a few lines that looking back I would edit (the one about Japan being a gaming Mecca is a little ham-fisted in retrospect) but I can’t get at it to make any changes, which in a way is quite liberating!
Here is a short excerpt…
Den Den Town, my geek filled second home.
Okay, maybe not wrong, but misguided…”

Really nice piece, Alex! I am jealous that you have so much gaming stuff in your neighborhood. I’ve got a regular electronics store and a mass-market used game store within walking distance, but neither have much in the charm or curiosity department.
Does Dragon Quest 9 have an English option, almost every DSi I see whipped out on the tube has some fanboy with spaced out face and I want in!
Afraid not Kam. Chrono Trigger does though, its great and only 2500 yen at the moment.
Glad you liked it Feit – you think it rings true? Also hope there were not too many grammatical errors for you.

Yeah! What he said.

I am confused and a little scared by that, and the site it links to.
But its too silly to delete. For the record though I have never heard of a transexual being refereed to as a “newhalf” in Japan (I don’t recommend it but that what you get if you follow the link). I have known quite a few too so it isn’t that I am sheltered!
Alex, are you being serious? How have you missed the TV sensation that is Haruna Ai? I think I went through a six month period where she (post-op!) was on my screen every single night.
Of course I saw but I never heard the term ‘newhalf’. ‘Ladyboy’ and other non-PC terms, but ‘newhalf’ in conversation.
But Miki tells me I am wrong, so guess my ‘newhalf’ friends just don’t refer to them selves in that manner.
