The most noticeable changes in HD Remix are the graphics and music. Sprites and backgrounds have been redrawn beautifully by Udon Entertainment and music remixed by OverClocked ReMix.

While HD Remix screenshots look amazing the sprites in motion are jarring at first. The problem is while the sprites are up-scaled the number of frames of animations have remained the same leading to a rather jerky experience. Developers Backbone did this to allow the Remix to still be used by tournament players; the appeal to the casual player though is more limited.

Personally I limited the trouble by selecting the highest speed setting but for me the option to display the original arcade sprite also helps. But maybe that’s just my brain being more forgiving to old-school sprites. But with all that said I only really noticed for a few sessions before my brain adapted and became more concerned with winning.
