So I haven’t mentioned the fact that Fallout is in many ways just a re-skin of Bethesda’s last game Oblivion, a game I spent a hundred and sixteen hours on. It was a beautiful game, so this is no bad thing and with engine and graphic updates the game looks better than ever.

Relics from Oblivion remain though. AI acts like they are still armed with a sword. This results in them running in to close combat instead of using their guns. I’m all for this when it’s the bad guys running in to my hail of bullets, not so much when it’s a party member.

Also still present are the stilted dialogues. Conversations take place between you, and startled manikins. NPCs stand rigidly though out interactions and, unnervingly, never breaking eye contact. This was forgivable in Oblivion after the cinematic style of Mass Effect I was hoping for more.

VATs, a throw back to Fallouts classic PC role-playing roots.
